Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn
Yup, yawn from me too.
Nice artwork, but nothing I'd spend much money on or want to have displayed where I could enjoy it.
I wonder how much lower the pages would've been without the token aardvark appearances. Is it possible Cerebus is there primarily to get a bit of a better price?
And welcome back Brian!
Well, tracing is NOT "artwork", and should never attract $$$...as for the Cerebus appearance, that aardvark was over-milked years ago.
Sadly.
And yeah, welcome back BC!
100% yawner... snfx!... eh? what did you say? I fell asleep in mid-sentence. Of course, in some circles we know that means it is my demonic possession that is in charge. As if. Mephistopheles has just been biding time for a few eternities and decides to take a one-on-one smack-down with a comic book author/artist through this highly, highly interactive strategy of possession that causes people to be critical. Seems just a tad too subtle to me. But what do I know... I'm possessed by demons.
Thanks, guys. I actually have not been away (well, not disconnected... I am behind the Great Firewall for all of 2011, but I am VPN'ing back through the US... it's just been a slow and uninspiring year, so far.
I have predicted that $300 will be the average price for these recreated and not re-imagined pages from The Ultimate Cerebus #1 project... let's see how I do. I paid a premium for page 1 just to have it, but unless I had the franchise on all the pages, that's it for me.
Are there any readers with a background in economic theory out there?
I have on the order of 200 pages from the published book. What would happen to the value of the sequestered thousands of pages if all 200 of mine were dumped onto the market at once? (Now don't get yer britches all boned up with that idea... it is just a thought experiment).
As to whether tracing is artwork, I'd call that a personal view. I don't think it's particularly original or creative, but there certainly is plenty of skill required to do it well.
I've wondered, given Dave's affinity for Dave Berg's work, if the tracing doesn't play in to that somehow - a very realistic, detailed form of characature.
And Sir Brian, it seems to me that you have a good number (percentage-wise) of what are viewed as 'grail' or simply more desirable pages.
I'd expect those to always bring in a premium. But honestly, how many Cerebus fans are out there (here?) who can both afford to buy multiple pages, and have an interest in multiple pages?
The Sequestered Thousands are kept in hiding for when the unwashed masses come to their senses and realize just how phenominal, how revelatory, how good the Second Half is.
I'm not holding my breath for that revelation to spread, but I think I know someone who'd REALLY like it to happen!
And Brian, you know there's one page I'd like and you know where it is. I'm personally much more interested in a page that's a thing of beauty, as disassociated as possible from the context of Cerebus.
For me, it's the single most real page in the entire series.
And it's beautiful too.
Breathtakingly so.
