April 9 2009 Where I was today

"Magus Doran... my son, he's a little (whaddyacall) deformed, but I think he's got a lot of potential and we love him very much."

April 6 2009 Where I was a couple of years ago

From about 2003-2005 I attended an interesting e-* (e-education, e-commerce, e-whatever) meeting that was held just outside of the city limits of L'Aquila, Italy, which was just hit by that earthquake the other day. So here are a few images from L'Aquila in calmer times.

St Pietro church, where we listened to a local choir, and then hit a nearby piazza and cracked open bottles of Abruzzo vino.

A bird's eye view of the conference venue, which, for all I know, has slid off its hillside.

View of L'Aquila from the deck of the conference center.

April 5 2009 Where I was today (Part 3)

The public park around the Temple of Heaven is an amazing place. It's rather like the world's biggest outdoor YMCA. Hundreds and hundreds of newly retired, or out of work, gather here every day to do pick-up anything... cards, play music, dance, exercise... and it is complete and open school-yard rules. Strangers and tourists come by, join in for a while, fall out and move on, and so on and so on. Here are some folks practicing their Tai Chi.

April 5 2009 Where I was today (Part 2)

Springtime at the MuTianYu section of the Great Wall: almost as nice as a Gerhard drawing of it.

April 4 2009 Where I was today (Part 1)

One of the common questions you get when standing at the Gate of Heavenly Peace is "Why do they keep that portrait of Mao so prominently displayed here?" ... There are many answers, but the most convincing one is "Do you want to be the known as the person who ordered that to be removed?" I think not.

This is one super-sweet page. Thanks to a fan who consulted (with the Alan Greenspan of Cerebus art) at the front end and then shared the outcome. Comic Art Fans can locate the players in this one easily enough.

Cirin, Astoria, Cirinists, Cerebus flying with feathers, Swoon...

I always had to look up the spelling of the word lieutenant... just one of those words that never looked quite right. Then I decided I had to learn its origins. Now I can barely believe I could not spell it... I just did not know what it meant. Lieu... Tenant... someone else who takes your place and acts on your behalf. (Double-duh)*squared.
