Greetings. It's once again time for the annual report on the open market prices for original art from the Cerebus series.
(1) "pre-bay" - sales from the early years of eBay (2000-04), there were a 2 more added in 2009, bringing the total up to 31 pieces. The average price 'back them' for a Cerebus page was $540.
(2) "E-Bay" - sales from 2005-09, there were 12 entries added in 2009, bringing the total up to 112 pieces. The overall average price is $602. Here is how that breaks out.
(a) Overall, over the years: in 2006, the price per page was $599; in 2007, it was $603; in 2008, it was $596; and in 2009, as I said, it is $602.
(b) During each year, here is the way it looks: in 2006, based on 48 entries, the price per page was $596; in 2007, based on 11 entries, the price per page was $659; in 2008, based on 41 entries, the price per page was $574; and for the 12 entries in 2009, the price per page was $670. So one might say that the economy had an effect last year. But it also follows a supply and demand model: 41 pages showed up in 2008, and the price fell.
(c) How does it look within the series? The Dave-only pages still command the lowest price, unless it is from issues 1 or 2, at $540/page. The mid-series Ger pages (issues 101-200), at $730/page, caught up with the early Ger pages (issues 65-100), which were steady at $725. And the later pages (issues 201-300) were $578/page.
(d) Double pages (baed on 4 sales) are $1300, on average.
(e) Covers (based on 9 sales) are $2060, on average.
(f) Grail pages I (based on 6 pages from issues 1 and 2) are $2010 each, on average.
(g) Grail pages II (based on 10 pages, eg, the Sproing! page.. you know the one) go for $1290 each.
