September 9 2007 Cerebus 234 p 15

September 9 2007
eBay item no. 320154773811
Seller: kingthebiz
Buyer: ?
Price: ?

One of those "aution ended early" moments.

This page was first picked up on February 4 2006 by kevenmatchstick back when Dave and Ger tried putting 8 pages from issues 234 up for sale all at once. Jim G picked up pp 10-13 for between $515-635, and I got p 14, 16, and 17 for between $510-697, while this p15 went for $609. M.E. grabbed it from kevinmatchstick during his first round of collecting, and subsequently flipped it, presumably to kingthebiz. There could be another step, of course; it's hard to tell when these things are not public.

UPDATE: Thanks to an informative comment from jsharpe (gratzi!), M.E.'s ebay handle might be "kingthebiz;" I did not know that. So the story may be less complex than I originally wrote it there.

This auction was going to end in about 3-4 days, but, heh, something fell.

September 3 2007 Off the DVD shelf

DVD compilations are the equivalent of Cerebus phone books.

Catching up with TV that you don't watch from issue to issue, I mean week to week, can be digested on your own schedule when you have a season at a time to suck down.

And a DVD episode clocks in at just about right for watching while on the treadmill.

Just finished, a few weeks ago: "Firefly" - recommended. Too bad it was too-quickly panned. I liked the mash-up Western/Space epic. The "Serenity" movie pulled off what the Trek movie needs to: plenty there for the old fan but a nice introduction and stand-alone story for the newbies.

But mainly today I wanted to gush about "Rome." Merciful Minerva! I am rarely hooked by these series until 4-5 episodes go by, at least. "Six Feet Under" took about 3 seasons for me to get there. "Rome" had me in the first 10 minutes of the first episode. I'm only on the 5th episode and the magic is still there. Five stars.

September 1 2007

Imagine a book. One of those over-sized art books. Nice paper... scholarly introduction... pages opposing the illustrations with the background for the image provided as a nice narrative. At the back of the book, a bit of "the making of..." the book - the Director's Cut.

There is another possibility for inclusion in the book: after all, one of the artists has say over the disposition of half the pages... so somethng else we-of-the-original-art have wanted to see: reprints of the original art on good paper stock at nearly life size.

Imagine the title: "A World Without Cerebus"

Just how many of these images would constitute such a book?

25 new full color "A World Without Cerebus" images and 30 pages and 10 covers from the series, plus a handful, maybe 10, of other commisions that have been done? That's 75 plates. Seems about right to me.

"A World Without Cerebus" (c. 2011)?

All new images available on order as art prints.

Just a thought.
