DVD compilations are the equivalent of Cerebus phone books.
Catching up with TV that you don't watch from issue to issue, I mean week to week, can be digested on your own schedule when you have a season at a time to suck down.
And a DVD episode clocks in at just about right for watching while on the treadmill.
Just finished, a few weeks ago: "Firefly" - recommended. Too bad it was too-quickly panned. I liked the mash-up Western/Space epic. The "Serenity" movie pulled off what the Trek movie needs to: plenty there for the old fan but a nice introduction and stand-alone story for the newbies.
But mainly today I wanted to gush about "Rome." Merciful Minerva! I am rarely hooked by these series until 4-5 episodes go by, at least. "Six Feet Under" took about 3 seasons for me to get there. "Rome" had me in the first 10 minutes of the first episode. I'm only on the 5th episode and the magic is still there. Five stars.
