June 26 2007 Original Art showing in Stockbridge MA - beginning Sat Nov 10

On May 31, the very day I left for Beijing, Dave faxed some juicy info my way to share with you.

Belated thanks, Dave. And y'all have heard most of it already.

"LitGraphic: The Art of the Graphic Novel" will be opening on Saturday, Nov 10, at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge MA. Included in the exhibit will be 21 pieces from the Cerebus series:

Cover Art from the trade paperbacks Church and State (Volume I) and Jaka's Story.

Interior art from Jaka's Story: pages 78, 79, 108, 109, 462, 463

Interior art from Women: pages 164, 165, 186

Interior art from Form and Void: pages 488, 489, 492, 494, 469

Interior art from The Last Day: pages 63, 228, 229, 238, 239

In other, related news, my fax to Dave about my reaction to the great "dumping on his commissions" controversy will get its "BlogginMale" premiere sometime in late July, and will be the launch point for commentary on the question of Sycophant or Not: are the visible spokespeople in the world after Cerebus actually quasi-official spokespeople or are we/they simply ferociously independent art collectors?

Should be interesting, watch for it.

And in other, unrelated FYI news: Dave and Ger are still taking on joint commissions and dividing the spoils. More about this and other exciting original art milestones when I get clearance to share it.

Hey ... just catching up on all the Cerebus art news after being away myself. It's like flippin buses, none for ages and then lots at once.

It's a shame we can't get a show like that over here in the UK!

heya, t

the pity of it is, getting the art is the easy part of the equation for a show... the tough things are a secure venue, the insurance, someone to put together a reasonable programme book, etc

when I provided those 13 pieces to that recent show at Eastern Michigan University, my part was simple - get the things there, trust they would not screw them up

one could *almost* organize a "Contrast Original Art Show" by having collectors bring a selection of (say) 5-20 pieces of art to a specific location, one afternoon and one afternoon only, and hold a show

finding enough people to do this... probably easy

finding people who would come by... I think that would happen

finding any old place to do it... qualified easy...

the problem would be security: what would the situation be where I was confortable enough that some wanker wouldn't come in off the street and make off with a page? Or go after a page with a marker pen?

A great idea. You'd just need to keep the pages behind glass and maybe charge nominal entry to keep the wankers with marker pens out .. that would also pay for the venue hire?
