May 22 2007 Black Magic...

One of the cooler moments of the weekend: meeting Carlos Santana (captured here on my cell phone). He patronizes the same jeweler/sculptor that I do in San Francisco, and my pal clued me in that he was coming in on Saturday.

Too cool! I got to see him play once in concert - it was amazing to watch him play his guitar.

The rilly rilly hard part was not going "sqweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" Carlos-friggin- SANTANA.... and playing it the way it was set up: "Hey, meet my new pal Carlos, he's the one I'm designing that thing I showed you the other day."

Santana will always hold the fine memory of ‘the only concert I’ve ever walked out on’ memory. It was a double-bill of Jeff Beck and Santana and the gods were good to me and Beck was on first (I was only there to catch his drummer, Terry Bozzio) allowing me to bypass CS. Yee-ha!

I love the album he made with John McLaughlin .. the one with their version of 'A Love Supreme' on it. Really excellent stuff.

You've heard the story of the alien scouts that came to Earth a few years ago, right? They got out, looked around for just a few moments, and skeedaddled back to the Mother Ship as quickly as they could.

The Supreme Regent asked: "What kinds of people do they have on that planet?"

The scouts said, all at once: "All of them."

"And what do they do on that planet?"

"Everything."
